INTRODUCTION [METHOD]
The pulse rate of human beings can vary quite significantly from each other. Many factors can influence a persons' pulse rate such as level of exercise, age and gender. In the following science experiment study the pulse rates of some of your friends and see which factors influence this:
STUFF YOU NEED [MATERIALS]
- WHITE PAPER
- PENCIL
- STOP WATCH
- FRIENDS
HOW TO PROCEED [PROCEDURE]
- On a blank piece of paper, use a pencil to make a chart with five columns and about three or four rows.
- Label the columns as follows from left to right: 'Name', 'Age', 'Gender', 'Time', 'Rate'.
- Test some of your friends and family's pulse rates by doing the following: Put your first two fingers on the underside of the subject's wrist below the thumb. Count how many pulse beats you can feel in 30 seconds and multiply this number by 2 to get to pulse rate per minute.
- Record your findings in your chart and compare the results of the various individuals!
