What’s it about?

The rule for static electricity is that different (opposite) charges attracts, while the same (equal) charges repel one another. Static electricity can be demonstrated in strange ways as can be seen in the following scientific experiment:

How does it work?

This science experiment works because all objects have both ‘positively’ charged electrical particles called ‘protons’ as well as ‘negatively’ charged particles called ‘electrons’. Normally, objects are in a neutral state and the protons and electrons cancel each other out. When objects are rubbed against each other causing friction, electrons move to either object from the other. The nylon stocking is given a strong negative electrical charge when the ‘polyethylene’ bag is rubbed against it, and since similar charges repel one another, the walls of the stocking pushes away from each other making the stocking seem to be filled magically!
