What’s it about?

When it rains, water falls from the sky and collects in puddles on the ground and in the streets. When the sun comes out after the rain, the puddles quickly dry up and the water disappears – but, where does it go? Let us find out with the following simple science experiment:

How does it work?

Unfortunately, this section is only available in the e-book version of the project.

The sun’s heat lets the water in the jars turn into very tiny droplets ‘gas’ which rise up into the air. This process is called ‘evaporation’ and the droplets are called ‘water vapour’. The heat from the sun causes the water to evaporate from both jars, but the foil cover over jar 2, prevents the water vapour from escaping into the air, so the level of water remains higher in this jar.
