What’s it about?

The human body has over 650 muscles and makes up 40% of the body’s weight. Our muscles help us to move about our surroundings and is even responsible to make us smile, frown or chew our food. In this science experiment, study how our muscular contraction in our upper arms causes the bones to move:

How does it work?

Unfortunately, this section is only available in the e-book version of the project.

This science experiment represents the main muscles at work in the upper and forearms of a human. The rubber band on the left represents the ‘Biceps’ used to bend the arms. The rubber band on the right represents the ‘Triceps’ and is used to straighten the arms. Many of the muscles in your body work in pairs like this, one muscle pulling a bone in one direction and the other muscle pulling the bone in the other direction.
