Kaleidoscope means ‘observer of beautiful shapes’ and it has been a fascinating & fun toy to many for over 180 years. When you look through the kaleidoscope, you will see colourful symmetrical shapes that look the same from any direction. These pictures are produced by mirrors inside the kaleidoscope. You can make your very own kaleidoscope very easily:

The basic Kaleidoscope has two mirrors inclined at an angle of sixty degrees to each other which produces five virtual images, each sixty degrees wide when the viewer looks in one end and light enters the other end, reflecting off the mirrors.
