How does it work?

Unfortunately, this section is only available in the e-book version of the project.

This science experiment works because of air pressure. Before the pieces of newspaper in the bottle start to burn, the pressure of the air trapped inside by the egg sealing the mouth of the bottle is the same as the air pressure outside. The oxygen is then being used by the burning flame so the pressure inside the bottle starts to fall. The air pressure on the outside of the bottle is now greater than the inside and the egg is pushed inwards to try and make the pressures equal.
