What’s it about?

Water ‘evaporates’ the fastest in warm, sunny areas. When water evaporates, heat or ‘energy’ is being drawn from the surroundings, and it cools down such. You can build your own ‘fridge’ that relies entirely on nature to keep things cold in the following science experiment:

How does it work?

This science experiment works because as water evaporates from the clay pot’s surface, it takes heat away so the water bottle underneath it will cool off. To make the fridge last longer, the clay pot is positioned inside a ‘dam’ of water enabling it to continuously soak up more water as the evaporation causes it to dry out. The pot needs to be thick, porous and ‘unglazed’ to act as a sponge for the water to be soaked up and drawn to the outside surface by evaporation, making the process as effective as possible.
