This science experiment works according to the law of reaction. The force or ‘action’ of the compressed air going backwards, sets up an equal force or ‘reaction’ going forwards. As the compressed air in the balloon is released through the straw jet backwards, your boat will shoot forwards and will carry on in this manner until the compressed air runs out.
