What’s it about?

All green plants, including bean plants need light to make ‘chlorophyll’ to make energy and grow. Green plants absorb the light and use it to break down ‘chlorophyll’ during ‘photosynthesis’ and this chemical reaction leads to the production of energy. Plants uses mainly their leaves for photosynthesis, and if a plant loses too many leaves, it will affect it’s growth as you will see in the following science experiment:

How does it work?

Plants use their leaves to absorb light to convert it into energy in a process called ‘photosynthesis’. A plant takes in water and carbon dioxide through their roots and leaves which is needed to form glucose, a sugar that living organisms break down to produce energy. Using their leaves to absorb energy from the sun or other light sources, plants rearrange water and carbon dioxide to form sugar. The plants with the most leaves grow faster because they have a larger area (more leaves) that can absorb light to produce energy, while the plants with fewer leaves do not grow taller as fast, and looks less healthy because of the smaller amount of light that they are able to absorb.
