Humans need to bundle up in coats, hats, mittens and heavy socks to stay warm during the winter months. The winter survival strategies of insects are, on the other hand, quite remarkable as can be seen in the following science experiment:

How does it work?

Some insects improve their chances of winter survival by building protective structures, such as ‘cocoons’ or ‘pupae’, at a specific growth stage. This reduces surface moisture contact that could cause freezing in very cold environments.
